BELLHANGER'S DRILLS
Bellhanger's page Bellhanger's Extension Drill Bits are designed for drilling holes through masonry, concrete block, etc... so wiring can be threaded through these holes for cable TV, telephone lines, alarm systems, computer networks, and other electrical installations. Drills have a hole in the flute, sometimes called a fish eye, for connecting wire to the drill and then used to pull or fish wire, cable, or pipe through the wall. These drills are also known as Bellhanger Drill Bits or Bell-Hanger's Bits, Installer Bits, Feeler Bits, Fishing Bits, Skylight Drills, Spotlight Drills, Installer's Feeler Bits or Wire Installing Drill Bits.

SOLID CARBIDE DRILLS
Solid carbide cutting tools are thermally stable and offer high resistance to abrasive wear.
DIE DRILLS page 120
Solid Carbide Die Drills are designed for drilling shallow holes in 48-60 RC hardened steels, stainless steels, and high temperature alloys. Drills produce such accurate holes that extra reaming operations can usually be eliminated. Use rigid setups.
JOBBER LENGTH page 54

JOBBER LENGTH - METRIC page 55
Solid Carbide Jobber Length Drills are for precision drilling of cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and non-metals. Needs rigid set-up for best results.
SPADE DRILLS page 121
Solid Carbide Spade Drills are designed for drilling shallow holes in steels harder than RC 50 and for thin sheet metal applications. Drill diameter tolerances are +.000 -.0005.
CARBIDE TIPPED DRILLS
Carbide Tipped drills have the advantage of retaining their cutting edge hardness at high machining temperatures generated by high cutting speeds. Drills last longer, as they have a higher resistance to wear.

CONE DRILLS
page 118 High Speed Steel 2 Flute Stepped Cone Drills are designed for drilling and enlarging perfectly round holes from 1/8" to 1-1/2" diameter in thin materials up to 1/8" thick. No pilot hole is required. Self-starting split point prevents walking. Each hole is automatically deburred by the cutting edge of the next larger size. Ideal for drilling sheet metal, non-ferrous metals, plastics, PVC, laminates, or wood. They are also known as Step Drill Bits or Step Drills.
CORE DRILLS
Core drills are designed to enlarge previously drilled, cored, or punched holes 75% of the tool diameter. They have a 30 degree relieved chamfer nose suitable for drilling rough cores.

They will drill twice as many holds as a Single End Drill for only a fraction more in cost. When one end gets dull or breaks, it can be quickly reversed in drill chuck to reduce change-over time, overall costs, and inventory.
GROUND DRILL BLANKS

Ground Drill Blanks are the same length as jobber length drills and hardened (RC 63-65) and parallel ground (no taper) to tolerances shown below. All blanks have a bright finish. They are used for the sizing of holes, stock for router bits, and other small tools, and can be used for gauges, drifts, punches, rollers, locating pins, and spindles, knockout pins, etc.

MECHANICS LENGTH DRILLS
A Mechanics Length Drill is generally shorter in the flute than a Jobber Length Drill. This makes it sturdier for drilling through harder materials.
Straight Shank - 135° Split Pointpage 34A
Straight Shank Mechanics Length Drills are designed for drilling holes where a screw machine drill is too short and a jobber drill is too long for rigidity. They have 3 flats on the shank for positive grip and and a 135° split point too keep drill centered without a pilot drill. The black and gold oxide coating adds wear resistence in most steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, copper, and non-ferrous materials. They are sometimes referred to as Maintenance Length Drills.

1/4" Reduced Shank - 118° Point page 21
1/4" Reduced Shank - 135° Split Point page 34
1/4" Reduced Shank Mechanics Length Drills (4" Length) are used for drilling holes larger than the capacity of a 1/4" drill chuck. Reduced shank drills should only be used for light to medium duty drilling applications as they do not have the torque strength of a straight shank drill. Reduced shank is not as hard as the body of drill to allow more flex and less breakage.
