screw machine drill
Screw Machine Length Drills were developed for screw machine operations where regular length drills were too long. The short length design reduces breakage and runout. They are now used in portable drilling where short, rigid drills are a requirement and are especially suitable for N/C drilling applications.
FRACTIONAL SIZES
Screw Machine Drill - Oxide Finish (135° Split Point)
For drilling in hard steel, stainless steel, titanium, and other hard materials.

   3/64" to 1/2" page 10
   33/64" to 2" page 11
Screw Machine Drill - Bright Polished Finish page 10
For drilling stainless steel and aluminum. Often used where oxide could potentially contaminate weld around edge of hole.

Screw Machine Drill - Gold Oxide Finish page 10
For portable or machine drilling in hard steels, stainless steels, and other hard materials. Designed as an alternative to black oxide. Gold oxide film reduces friction between the tool and the work. Does not smear metal.

Screw Machine Drill - Oxide Finish (118° Standard Point)
For use primarily in screw machine operations, and for general purpose drilling in mild steel and low alloys.

   33/64" to 2" page 11
Screw Machine Drill - Gold Titanium Coated page 10
For use primarily in screw machine operations, and for general purpose drilling in mid steel and low alloys.

Screw Machine Drill - Reduced Shank - 1/4" page 12
Reduced shank drills are used for drilling holes larger than the capacity of a 1/4, 3/8, or 1/2 drill chuck. Reduced shank drills should only be used for light to medium duty drilling applications as they do not have the torque strength of a straight shank drill. Reduced shank is not as hard as the body of drill to allow more flex and less breakage.

Screw Machine Drill - Reduced Shank - 3/8" page 12

Screw Machine Drill - Polished Finish - Left Hand page 15
For portable or machine drilling where left hand rotation is required. Also used to drill out broken screws and bolts.

Screw Machine Drill - Cobalt page 18
For drilling in tough alloys, stainless steel, titanium inconel, and other work hardening metals.
